The 2020 Pirelli Calendar, titled "Looking for Juliet", has already been unveiled. For the first time signed by an Italian photographer, the 47th edition of "The Cal" (as it is also mentioned, in abbreviation) draws on Shakespeare's timeless tragedy. Paolo Roversi wanted to capture the Juliet in every woman and, for the first time in calendar history, accompanied the photograph for a short film.
Eight women were chosen from actresses, models and artists who incorporated a new concept of love and, thanks to their varied facets and life experiences, could play the role of a modern Juliet.
Divided into two parts, the film shows the stars chosen to come to the studio without make-up or facts, among them Claire Foy, Chris Lee, Indya Moore, Chris Lee, Stella Roversi, Yara Shahidi, Kristen Stewart and Emma Watson. telling Roversi about her idea of the character, portraying a Juliet with different emotions and expressions. In the second part, the protagonists appear already dressed and give life to these same interpretations, in order to tell a story as closely as possible to the truth. "I was looking for a pure soul, someone innocent who combined strength, beauty, tenderness and courage," writes Roversi.
Photographed in May this year, Paolo Roversi chose to do so in the cities of Verona, Juliet's birthplace, and in Paris, where the photographer has lived for about forty years. The calendar has a total of 132 pages with excerpts from Romeo and Juliet with 58 color and black and white photographs capturing the "protagonists" of the story. Also marked are the dates of the character's birth, his first encounter with Romeo, the marriage and death, complemented by the births of the stars invited to this edition.
