SUDBURY – A retired electrician from Sault Ste. Marie is the latest big lottery winner after finding a forgotten note in the pocket of a jacket borrowed from a friend.
Jose Lima, 69, discovered the ticket to the Lotto 6/49 draw on September 28, 2019 after the jacket returned.
Lima was shocked to learn that he had won $ 100,000 by matching the last six of Encore’s seven numbers.
“I thought I had won $ 1,000. Then OLG called and the other customers at the store started to congratulate me,” said Lima in a press release. “It wasn’t until the validation bulletin that I realized I had won $ 100,000.”
The man called his sons after he discovered the victory, but didn’t tell anyone else.
Lima used his earnings to buy a country house where he could spend his time browsing.
“I feel wonderful. It’s something that happens once in a lifetime, if at all,” said Lima.
The winning ticket was purchased at Stamping Grounds on the Second Line in Sault Ste. Marie.
