The past week has been a thrill for gamers, with the latest announcement by Sony Interactive Entertainment, stating that they will not be attending E3 2020 – which will take place on June 9th and 11th.
The SIE statement referred to its intention for 2020. “We will develop our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of events for consumers around the world. Our focus is on ensuring that fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have fantastic games coming to PlayStation 4 and, with the launch of PlayStation 5, we are looking forward to a year of celebrations with our fans ”.
E3: Sony Interactive Entertainment will not be present at the event
This communiqué followed the official confirmation, therefore, it was not a rumor, which led the main media to reveal it first hand. The choice for the brand, due to its absence in what is one of the biggest video game events in the world that takes place in Los Angeles, is strange, since this year, the Japanese brand has great launches and announcements to make – namely the well-known, PlayStation 5.
The event organization's response
Shortly after SIE's announcement regarding its presence at the event, the organization wasted no time in responding with an official statement on its website and to the press.
In a statement, the organization says that “E3 is an exclusive event that celebrates the video game industry, showing people, brands and innovations that shape (the much loved) entertainment by billions of people around the world. E3 2020 will be an exciting show, energetic and full of new experiences, partners, exhibitors (and with a component of) programming that will entertain new visitors and veterans. Exhibitors' interest falls on new launches that attract the attention of countless brands in order to establish a closer connection with video game fans around the world ”.
It is evident that the organization sought to emphasize the importance of E3 among fans and the world of video games. Thus, in this sense, an indirect approach to the SIE's decision discourse is observed, not effectively criticizing, however, without ever leaving it without a message about its objectivity regarding the event.
Microsoft confirms its presence at E3 2020
Unlike SIE, Microsoft has announced that it will be attending this, which is the largest video game event in the world. Unlike SIE, Microsoft has announced that it will be attending this, which is the largest video game event in the world. The American brand has been assiduous presence in this event. Given the proportions taken, Microsoft's Xbox Xbox head of department Phil Spencer announced in his Twitter account that his team was working hard to appear at E3.
Our team is hard at work on E3, we look forward to sharing with everyone who loves to play what's ahead for us. Our artform has consistently been propelled by the cross-section of creativity and technical progress. 2020 is a milestone year in that journey for Team Xbox. # XboxE3 # E32020

This year of 2020 is an especially important year for both Xbox and Sony, as both have planned several game presentations and their new generation consoles, mainly – Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
Phil Spencer's comment seems to come at a time when fans longed for news from the big players in the market, once panic set in with the absence of SIE (as it had happened in 2019).
And the PlayStation 5? Are there any other plans for your official announcement?
We know that each brand seeks to guarantee secrecy before the official announcement of its next generation consoles. However, the leaks and leading analysts showed what could be the future for these true works of electronic engineering.
The PlayStation 5 development kit had been discovered long before its announcement (as a trademark) at CES 2020 on 6 January. These images met the suspicions of a launch in 2020 of the new generation of consoles. Now, at this year's CES event, PlayStation presented some images of the new console's offerings, as well as the official logo – even if there are no images of the final console.
According to the US brand, we can expect Ray-Tracing technology, an SDD for faster loading times, 3D audio, haptics / adaptative triggers and 4K Blu-Ray player.
The big question is: when will the new console be officially announced? Well… Since they won't be attending E3, the big bet would be PlayStation Experience. The launch of the PS4, for example, in 2013 was made at this great PlayStation event. Isn't it a little odd that SIE is missing one of the big gaming events when it plans to sell its next generation console? Xbox has made it clear that it will seize the opportunity to promote its console.
Is that you? What is your opinion on the decision made by Sony Interactive Entertainment regarding E3? What about Microsoft? Remember that PlayStation has not been the only one leaving the event in the last two years.
