Rock legend Bruce Springsteen aimed at President Trump in a new interview on Friday, saying the president "doesn't understand" the meaning of being an American.
In an interview about "CBS this morning" Host Gayle King asked Springsteen about a recent Trump rally in which the president boasted that his 2016 election victory was achieved without the backing of celebrities like Springsteen, Beyonce and Jay-Z.
"Did you surprise him that he's bullshitting you after all this time?" King asked.
"Not really. Anything is possible," answered the New Jersey musician.
King noted that "many people are very concerned about the direction of the country," with Springsteen agreeing that it is a "very scary moment" in America.
"The administration of the nation has been thrown away for someone who has no idea what that means. And unfortunately, we have someone I feel doesn't have an understanding of the deep meaning of what it means to be an American."
The interview coincides with the 70-year release of their "Western Stars" soundtrack album. Springsteen, a vocal defender for Barack Obama in 2008 and Hillary Clinton in 2016, is no stranger to criticizing the president.
In an interview with Squire Last year, Springsteen said Trump "has no interest in uniting the country," although he wants to make the United States big again. The famous rock and roll then explained why Trump's presidency is "unforgivable."
"He has no interest in uniting the country and in fact has an interest in doing the opposite and dividing us, which he does almost daily," he said.
"This is simply a crime against humanity as far as I am concerned. It is a terrible and terrible message to send to the world. You are intentionally trying to deprive a large part of the Americans. This is unforgivable. These are people who invest in denying the idea." of a united America and an America for all. It's a critical moment. It's a scary moment for any conscious American, I think. "
