Chinese health officials on Sunday updated the death toll from the new coronavirus (Covid-19). 1,765 have already died in China alone. Five more were also reported dead in the rest of the world, including a Chinese tourist in France.
The latest balance sheet issued by the National Health Commission was 1,665 in China and 1,670 worldwide. This represents an increase of 100 deaths during Sunday, in Hubei province alone. The health authorities of this region also revealed that an additional 1933 new cases were registered.
Chinese authorities have isolated several cities in central Hubei province to try to control the epidemic, a measure that covers about 60 million people.
In Portugal, nine suspicious situations have arisen so far, but no case has been confirmed. One case is currently being investigated.
Two weeks ago, the WHO declared the outbreak as an international public health emergency in view of the high risk of spreading the new coronavirus (family of viruses that causes respiratory infections such as pneumonia) on a global scale.
The international emergency implies the adoption of prevention and coordination measures worldwide.
